The Toyota Matrix combines the style and spirit of a sports car and the functionality of a small sport utility vehicle with the affordability of a compact sedan. For 2009, this popular 5-door hatchback has been completely redesigned, with sleeker styling, an enhanced interior, heightened performance and additional safety features.
The Toyota Matrix is available in three front-wheel drive trim levels (Base, S and XRS) and one all-wheel drive trim level (S). The 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine found in the Base trim produces 132 horsepower; all other trims are equipped with a 158 hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Available transmissions include a five-speed manual, four-speed automatic and a five-speed automatic with manual shift control. Every Matrix is outfitted with a comprehensive group of safety features, including front side-impact airbags, front and rear curtain airbags, front active head restraints and anti-lock disc brakes; Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), including traction control and brake assist, is standard on the XRS and optional on all other trims.
The all-new 2009 Matrix is Toyota's second generation of this dynamic Corolla-based hatchback.
